The Nigeria Council of the Pan-African
Circle of Artists (PACA-Nigeria) is organising the 4th edition
of its Merit Award.
The awardees have been selected through a rigorous nomination
process that is open to members of PACA in Nigeria and beyond.
The reputation of the recipients of this year’s awards, as in
previous years, speaks volume of their worthiness for such
honour.
First on the list of awardees is Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, a
distinguished public servant, businessman, administrator and
promoter of cultural causes. Then there is Chief Sammy Olagbaju,
a retired banker and avid collector of art who has contributed
to the growth of art and many artists in Nigeria. Gbadamosi and
Olagbaju will be installed as patrons of PACA.
To receive an Honorary Fellowship is Peter Areh, the young,
dynamic Director of Pendulum Centre for Culture and Development,
who has shown non pareil commitment to advancing the cause of
art, culture and humanism in the museum-gallery circuit in
Nigeria. Mrs C.F. Anyaegbuna and J.C. Obi (both former Curators
of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments) will be
awarded honorary membership of PACA.
This year’s award, to be held at Golden Gates Restaurant, Ikoyi,
Lagos, on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 3.00pm, will be
attended by PACA patrons, including Engr. Yemisi Shyllon, Alhaji,
Abdulaziz Ude, Professor Anya O. Anya and PACA fellows in
Nigeria.
The fourth edition of the PACA Award, perhaps, heralds the
association’s 6th Biennale (Afrika Heritage 2006) which is
scheduled to hold in Lagos in October 2006.
